Frequently Asked
Questions

How can I figure out if you're the right therapist or supervisor for me?

When you reach out expressing interest in therapy, supervision, or consultation, the first thing we'll do is schedule a free, 15-20-minute phone call to discuss your needs. I see this call as an opportunity to learn more about what you're looking for and to give you a sense of how we might work together as well as answer any questions you have.

If we both determine that we're a good fit and we'd like to work together, we'll discuss scheduling our first meeting. If you decide that I'm not a great fit for you or if I believe that another provider would be better suited to address your specific concerns, I will provide you with some referrals who I think might be well-suited to meet your needs.

What determines the type of therapy I participate in?

During our first few sessions, we'll work together to determine what type of therapy would best suit your needs. One of the things I love about knowing a variety of therapies is that we have many options to identify the approach that will work best for you! I practice several evidence-based treatments focused on helping you make positive changes in your life. Some address specific issues (e.g., Cognitive Processing Therapy is designed to treat trauma and PTSD) whereas others have been shown to be effective with a wide variety of presenting concerns, including ACT and CBT. Sometimes, a combination of relevant treatments might be the best fit for you. We'll discuss our options together and make a plan for treatment

Over the course of our work together, if it seems to either of us like what we're doing isn't as helpful as it could be, we'll discuss shifting the approach or adding elements that could be useful. Determinations around the treatment plan are always ongoing and mutual.

Notably, all of the therapies I provide are active and oriented toward helping you make changes to move toward the life you want.

How long are therapy sessions?

The initial intake session is 60 minutes. After that, therapy sessions last 45-50 minutes, unless you are engaged in Prolonged Exposure (a treatment for trauma and PTSD), in which case some sessions will be 75 minutes.

Do you see clients in person or online?

I'm happy to see you in person in Santa Monica or via telehealth anywhere in California for therapy. When we have our initial phone call, I'll let you know the timeline for the next available in-person appointment vs. telehealth appointment, so you can decide what would work best for you.

I provide supervision anywhere in California and consultation across the US and internationally.

Do you take insurance?

I'm an out-of-network provider, meaning that I do not take insurance. However, many insurance plans cover some or all of the cost of out-of-network mental health services. I'm happy to provide you with a monthly superbill, a document which contains all of the information that you need to submit a claim to your insurance company.

If you're interested in seeking reimbursement, I recommend that you contact your insurance company prior to our first meeting to learn more about their policies, including how you should go about submitting a superbill as well as their anticipated reimbursement rate.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

Federal law gives consumers of mental health and medical care the right to a “Good Faith Estimate” of the expected total cost of any non-emergency services. Under the law, health care providers are required to give this estimate to clients who do not have insurance or who are not using insurance. As part of treatment with me, you will be provided with a Good Faith Estimate of the cost of services. For additional information on Good Faith Estimates, please visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
